I have never smelled the flower itself. The fragrance of the cologne itself is simply exquisite! It has a bitter herbal scent with a hint of pepper. I think the mixture of resin and frankincense gives it a black pepper note. I don't detect any sweetness at all, which gives me reason to recommend it to men.
