Salicylic acid belongs to the beta-hydroxy acid group (the only one in this group used in cosmetics) and can be used similarly to hydroxy acids, that is, for chemical peeling. It is a frequent component of numerous cosmetic formulations. Salicylic acid dissolves in fats and alcohol and does not dissolve in water (no more than 0.2 g/L). It is gentler than AHA acids, and side effects such as burning or excessive peeling are less common. It is recommended for oily, normal, and acne-prone skin.
Actions.
Thanks to its liposolubility, salicylic acid acts not only on the surface but penetrates deeply into the sebum layer in the pores, cleansing them and removing blackheads. It has anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, and fungicidal properties. It prevents the formation of pimples, disinfects the skin, and stimulates regenerative processes.
- cleanses pores and clears sebaceous glands
- cleanses hair follicles
- possesses antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.
- removes unnecessary callous cells of the epidermis
- reduces the visibility of acne scars
- reduces wrinkles and tones the skinUsage.
SALICYLIC ACID SHOULD NOT BE USED DURING PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING. DURING ACID TREATMENT, USE SUNSCREEN BEFORE GOING OUT INTO THE SUN.
Salicylic acid acts more gently than AHA acids, causing less irritation. In cosmetic formulas, it is usually used at a concentration of 1-2%, often in combination with alcohol or cosmetic oils. When using salicylic acid as a chemical peel, higher concentrations of 10-30% acid in ethyl alcohol are used.

In cosmetic formulations, it is typically used at a concentration of 1-2%, often in combination with alcohol or cosmetic oils. When used as a chemical peel, higher concentrations of 10-30% acid in ethanol are employed.Harmful if swallowed (lethal dose is approximately 1 gram per kilogram of body weight). Pure acid can irritate the respiratory system and skin, and there is a risk of serious damage if it gets into the eyes. Special care is recommended when preparing solutions and cosmetic formulations with this acid, including the use of masks and goggles.
