Beauty and youth, youth and beauty — these concepts are inseparable. In the quest for both, a woman is ready to go to great lengths. To preserve the smoothness and elasticity of the skin, and to slow down the inevitable aging processes, experts from the Canadian brand The Ordinary have developed a series of unique serums. The Retinol 0.5% in Squalane formula is recommended for smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, improving the overall tone and elasticity of the skin, eliminating signs of photoaging, as well as age-related pigmentation spots, minimizing pores, evening out skin tone, and enhancing facial complexion.
Before using the product, please pay attention to the manufacturer's warning: retinol may cause severe irritation and redness of the skin, especially around the eyes and lips. If you have never used retinol products before, it is recommended to start with a product containing a lower concentration of this ingredient, such as the Retinol 0.2% in Squalane serum. Then, you can gradually introduce stronger formulas. The result will be just as effective, and you will be able to avoid irritations and redness.

There is no strong effect, but the skin looks less "tired."
The best thing I have ever tried!!! I have combination skin and, as mentioned below, the texture of this retinol is oily, but it doesn't scare me. At the beginning of use, breakouts started, which continued for 1-1.5 months. The effect became visible already in the second week of use - my face became smooth, tightened, and the subcutaneous pimples reduced. Although blackheads became less, they didn't completely disappear (I bought salicylic acid to get rid of them). I started with a concentration of 0.2%. Then I couldn't find it anywhere and bought it from another website, but it turned out to be a fake! So, I want to tell everyone to check websites and read reviews about the companies where you order products. Even if it is more expensive, it doesn't guarantee that it is not a counterfeit, as it happened to me. Now I will only order from here. Before/after result after one month.
After 2 uses in the evening, incredible breakouts appeared on my cheeks, but the comedones on my forehead disappeared. After a month of more frequent use, the breakouts were minimal, and I have never regretted it because this is the first time I have seen such an effect. The consumption is economical, I will soon switch to 1% retinol. Before this, I used toner from Pixi and the famous Ordinary toner, but only this serum has managed to tackle my problem skin.
Serum is nothing special. I applied it every day, but there was no effect at all. It was greasy and did not absorb into my skin at all. The shelf life is only 3 months after opening, which is very short. There is still a lot of serum left, I haven't even used half of it. Now I use it on my legs so as not to waste it.
Well, this serum doesn't do anything. I say this as someone who has tried all the retinol products I could find.
I ordered it elsewhere, but I can say that this retinol did not work for my oily-prone skin. I used it for about 2 months following the guidelines for retinoids, but didn't see any great results. The serum has an unpleasant smell and an oily texture that doesn't absorb well. However, I read that it worked great for dry skin.
Started using it daily right away (in winter). Useless product, no effect + started clogging pores on the face, decided to only use it on the neck, as a result - closed comedones appeared on the neck. Gave this product to my mom (redhead) with thin, sensitive, dry, pigmented skin, who doesn't use any cosmetics, only washes her face with water. But even on her, there was no effect. And I switched to Obagi 360 Retinol 0.5.
I have been using this serum for 2 months now. Before this, I was already using a cream with retinol, but I still introduced the serum gradually every other day for the first 2 weeks, then switched to daily use. The effect seems to be there, I have problematic skin, healing post-acne, acne....acne has disappeared (maybe due to medication treatment) and post-acne marks become less noticeable. I will continue using it. I apply it at night and in the morning, it feels very pleasant on my face.
I gave it to my mother (50 years old), who has dry, thin, and sensitive skin. She doesn't take care of her face at all, she just washes it and goes. Now she applies it every evening and there is an effect. On me, there is no effect.
The expiration date is too short for such a budget-friendly expense. I gradually introduced retinol for 1 month and used it every day for 2 more months. The expense can be seen in the photo. Unfortunately, I have to throw it all away. The expiration date is indeed 3 months after opening. Exactly 3 months later, the smell of the product changed.
It's too short to evaluate the effect of retinol. Unfortunately, I won't repeat it. Because there is nothing pleasant about paying for a product and throwing away most of it (even though the product is budget-friendly). If there is someone to share under the same roof, then you can take it for two people).
I liked it in use. The skin is dry, so the squalane didn't cause any discomfort. At first there was redness and itching, which is normal for retinol. In the morning, the skin tone was always even and light. I didn't notice any more effect, wrinkles and a small pigmentation are still in place. Well, the squalane tone can be leveled out without retinol...) So I'll be looking for something else.
Very good product, but it should not be used frequently. I alternate it with my regular skincare routine because even though it is oily, it dries out the skin when used daily. I only apply it at night and it can be sealed with any face cream. It lasts a long time, but it should not be overused.
The serum is great, and at such a price. You should apply it twice a week at night, no more often, to avoid drying out the skin. The consistency is like liquid oil, it might be uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it and the effect is worth it. 2-4 drops are enough for the face, you don't need more, and the usage is quite economical. Changes will be noticeable as early as the next morning after application, it's the best remedy for fighting acne, of course, in combination with other treatment products.
I fully confirm the previous review! I bought this product based on a beauty blogger's recommendation and I didn't regret it, my skin really improves noticeably! Scars from inflammations heal faster, wrinkles have slightly reduced, and overall skin texture is very pleasant! I do get inflammations from time to time, but it's mostly hormonal, and I didn't have any reactions to this serum (no major breakouts, dryness, or anything else..). I will try other products from this line, together they should be amazing.
In the first 10 days, I couldn't get enough of this serum. Yes, the oil is so strong that it doesn't absorb into the skin for two hours, and you will shine like a pancake. But in the morning, I woke up with the best skin of my life (after childhood, of course) - soft, tender, without peeling, velvety.
But on the 10th day, I started breaking out. Of course, retinol leads to that, or the skin starts drying out (for example, I didn't wash my hands and applied my eye cream with retinol, and in the morning my skin around the eyes was dry as if it had been dried out), but I didn't expect it to be like this.
After a week, it gradually went away, acne healed, no new ones appeared, and I woke up again with a touch-sensitive, tender skin. I suspect it's more of an effect from squalane, a wonderful oil, now I want to try it separately.
But the pigmented spots from very old acne started disappearing. This is actually why I bought it. Acids, arbutin, and vitamin C didn't help me, so I decided that only retinol was left, and it works. Yes, it takes time, only after a month did I see minimal results, but my bottle is still 2/3 full, so I have plenty of time. I hope it will help.
And yes, retinol should be used without any other active ingredients. No acids, and especially no vitamin C, don't even need to cover it with cream. Just a light toner after cleansing and a few drops of retinol are enough.
